Mohit Garg explores passwordless authentication strategies for manufacturing floors, addressing shared terminal challenges through RFID badges and biometric solutions that reduce IT costs, phishing risks and productivity losses.

Shared terminals, kiosks and PCs dominate manufacturing floors where employees wearing PPE and gloves cannot use personal smartphones for MFA. Password sticky notes stuck on devices eliminate security entirely while removing audit trails - nobody knows which employee actually logged in. This creates material costs through tens of thousands of password resets annually, phishing risks from shared credentials and productivity losses when workers cannot access systems.

Traditional password approaches fail on shop floors. Success requires shifting from "what you know" to "who you are" and "what you carry" - physical identity factors like RFID badges already issued for facility access and biometric authentication where permitted.

The session will explore:

  • Why shared passwords create compliance gaps, productivity losses and material IT costs at scale;
  • HR system integration strategies that automate employee onboarding and eliminate manual provisioning barriers;
  • Business case metrics showing ROI from reduced help desk costs, productivity gains and compliance risk mitigation.
