Cameron Molfetto of Darktrace explores ransomware-as-a-service groups deploying nation-state AI tactics, examining anomaly detection through behavior baselines and autonomous containment during overnight attacks.

Ransomware-as-a-service groups now deploy nation-state tactics using artificial intelligence that autonomously performs reconnaissance, crafts tailored phishing across thousands of recipients, and bypasses defenses without human intervention. Traditional security relies on supervised machine learning programmed to detect known threats from historical attack data - leaving organizations blind to zero-day exploits, business email compromises and insider threats by definition lacking previous examples. XDR solutions aggregate data across email, cloud, network and endpoint but still require human analysts to correlate alerts and investigate incidents at machine speed.

Effective defense requires autonomous AI that learns normal business patterns rather than searching for pre-programmed threat signatures.

In this session, Cameron Molfetto of Darktrace will explore:

  • Anomaly detection building purchasing-pattern profiles for users and devices to identify deviations from learned behavior baselines;
  • Autonomous containment taking action during overnight ransomware attacks before alerting teams;
  • Open API architecture consolidating existing security investments under unified analysis.
