Christian Moreira explores zero trust principles and microsegmentation for OT environments facing escalating ransomware threats.

Digital transformation connects isolated OT environments to IT networks, expanding attack surfaces faster than organizations can secure them. Manufacturing faces escalating threats - 21% of 2024 cyberattacks targeted this sector, with 73% involving ransomware. The core challenge remains asset management across IT and OT environments.

Zero trust is a principle, not a platform - comprising vulnerability management, threat intelligence and segmentation strategies. Organizations confuse macro segmentation using firewalls and VLANs with microsegmentation, which segments processes and workloads rather than zones, preventing lateral movement when vendor access introduces threats.

This session, led by Christian Moreira of McKesson, will cover:

  • Macro versus microsegmentation for containing ransomware within OT environments;
  • Zero trust implementation using traffic analysis and agentless monitoring without business disruption;
  • Vendor communication policies and OT-specific incident response addressing legacy infrastructure constraints.
